Sunflower Seeds Consumed by Man, Birds, And Rodents !
*****
*****
A packet of sunflower seeds given to a very young seven year old Bob by his uncle, produced two plants that seemed to reach the sky. When the sunflower seeds were nearly ripe, he made up some free raffle tickets to give to his family and neighbours. The first prize in the raffle was ten sunflower seeds. When the sunflower seeds had been harvested, there seemed to be thousands of them, even after the birds and the mice had taken their share
of the sunflower seed crop. Bob decided to change the prizes for the sunflower seed raffle. The first prize would be 30 sunflower seeds, the second prize 20, and the third prize 10 sunflower seeds. Each of the other ticket holders were given five sunflower seeds as a consolation prize. Simple pleasures of an imaginative mind of the very young before televisions and playstations !

The picture on the left was taken on a farm were a crop of sunflower seeds is a valued commodity. A small bee is doing its work to ensure that the head produces sunflower seeds that are fully formed. Without pollination by the bees and insects the sunflower seeds would produce fewer fertile seeds. Without fertile sunflower seeds there would be no glorious fields of sunshine to admire during a drive through the countryside.
