Moving Stones by Shoulder Pole When Building Stone Walls Along Embankment.
Building stone retaining walls for the garden or for the parks serve a different purpose than those built by the rulers of countries in the ancient world. Stone walls were built to protect the cities, and built to protect domains. Building stone walls in ancient times was very labour intensive, less so in this modern age, although even now in some parts of the world, stone walls are being built with the use of very little machinery or power tools.
The picture shows where muscle power was used to move the stone to build the stone walls along an embankment, with men using shoulder poles to carry the stone, and walking up ramps to the different levels. At that time, being employed to build stone walls was not the easiest way of earning a living.
