Easter Holidays and Chocolate Easter Eggs Customs and Folklore.
2006-04-16::
Hello Ann,
I hope you haven't eaten all your easter eggs.......if you had any !
My sister gave me a BAR of chocolate, and one of her fruit cakes.
I will keep the fruit cake but I had to give the chocolate to one of the boys, as I didn't have any Easter Eggs here to give to him when he called to see me,
but dont tell her !
According to folklore, we should have had thunderstorms on Friday,
but I didn't see any. Today, Easter Sunday, was Easter Egg Day when we were children, but the Easter Eggs we received were nothing compared to the Easter Eggs on display in the shops, and the Easter Eggs that are given to the children of today.
On such an Easter Sunday in days gone by,
families from Rhos and Johnstown, and Ponciau I suppose, would go
for a walk along the road here, to Pentre Buchan; the children proudly
showing off their new clothes. Nothing happened on Friday and nothing
seems to have happened today !!!! I have kept away from much of
the TV today because some of the things some of the people
say about easter, make me cringe.....!
Failing Health Causes Concern For Family Members.
You already know of Cousin Na's failing health problems, and also,
you probably have already heard the recent news about Cousin Na, but in case you haven't, then
she is now in hospital, and her husband is in a Home. It seems that her husband
has a mental illness, and left Na in her wheelchair
without attention.
Failing health is a big problem for us all as we get older. Failing health and old age is not particularly an ideal combination of factors!
The neighbours raised the alarm when they hadn't
seen anything of them, so the police and ambulance men arrived,
to break into the house. Their daughter phoned Lyn
with the news. Her daughter said that Na was more comfortable now,
because she is having the necessary attention.
Na and I used to work in the gardens at Bronwylfa Hall.....
she was a member of the Womens Land Army ! Do you remember
those days ??? I could do with some of the Land Army here now,
because everything seems to have started growing after the Winter.
This morning there were three baby rabbits popping out from under the shed
to nibble a blade of grass or two, and then dashing back to safety.
On one morning last week there was a big cat sitting by the shed
looking very attentively at the bunny's entrance gate. I think the cat
was hoping for a bunny breakfast !!!!
How are things with you ?
Take care,
Dan
