This is only going to be a short letter because it is 'money day'! I went to the bank this morning to fetch it then went to the bookshops to look for some books about the French language, but did not buy any because there were none suitable. From the bookshops, I went to the garage to get two new tyres for the front wheels of my car, ready for the winter roads. The roads in winter are sometimes covered in ice and if the tyres are not good, then the car becomes dangerous to drive. That is all I have done all morning. Of course I have been watching the results of the elections in the USA, for the television is showing lots of programs about the USA now that there is a new president. The American people decided that Bush was not looking after them properly, so they took the Presidency away from him. I think I would have been disappointed if Bush had been re-elected.

Have you noticed that the type is bigger in this letter? The reason is that I have been doing some work for Kevin who wanted a report typed for his work, and he did not like the very small print, so I had to change the letters on the typewriter. By the time you get THIS letter, you will have received the copies of the letters from the College, which I sent to you on Monday, and also the Readers' Digest, which I sent to you on Sunday, so you will have plenty to read and study. I am still waiting for the 'examination' papers to be returned to me.... you have had plenty of time to complete them.... you lazy fellow!
Autumn Harvest of Apples and Fallen Tree Leaves.
How is the hospital work going on? Keep doing it for as long as you can, then you will be making good use of your time. It will make the months go past more quickly for you, until it is time for you to start your travels. I will have to start getting a room ready for you; what colors do you want me to put on the walls ? What color carpet do you want on the floor ? I am not a very quick worker when I have to decorate rooms. About two years ago, it took me six weeks just to decorate my own bedroom. I only do a little every day then go and work in the garden for a change.
All the apples are now off the tree, thank goodness! They are all in the store, ready to be used during the next six months. When I went into the garden yesterday morning, the ground under the trees seemed to be covered with apples. There had been a lot of strong winds during the night, so the wind did a lot of the work for me by getting the apples down off the top branches. The wind had also blown a lot of the old leaves off all the trees in the garden. I spent about one and a half hours, working in our neighbours garden, collecting some of the leaves up for her. She lives by herself and is not very strong. She has a big black dog to keep her company, and she takes the dog out for a walk every day, even when its raining. I tell her she should stay in her warm home, but she does not take any notice of me !
