High School Governors Get Letter From High School Pupil About School Conditions.

Letter to the High School Governors

I am a year eleven pupil at the High School and I am writing to inform you of some improvements that could be made to the school. I realise that the High School is a very popular school in the North Wales area and I understand that the GCSE pass rate is among the highest in Britain. However, there are improvements which can be made, even in the highest standards of schools. It has come to my understanding that fellow pupils have many points which they would like to be heard by the school governors.

To start with, I would like to express my concerns for the toilet situation in the High School. The toilets are disgusting. There are people in them smoking and messing around at break times and during lessons. Many of the younger children at the High School are scared of going to the toilet as they fear they may be targeted by older pupils. Also the toilets are dirty, damp and dull. They are often flooded, most of the toilets have no seats and the walls are covered in graffiti. For a start I think that the toilets should be clean and renewed more often, secondly they should be more monitored with random checks by the High School teachers.

The positioning of the toilets in school is very badly planned. For example, if you are in need of the toilet in the English block, you will have to travel a long distance to find a toilet which is actually unlocked! My solution is that a new area filled with toilets should be built near the centre of the High School as this will save lesson time being wasted wandering to the opposite side of the school. Also the positioning of them would mean that teachers could easily monitor who comes in and out of them, reducing truancy and threat.

Another problem which urgently needs addressing is the resources within the school. Classes suffer in cold damp and dull rooms due to High School funds being wasted on pathetic items such as a water fountain which is hidden, yes hidden by buildings and seats. Also money has been wasted on picnic benches, which are only used by year sevens in the summer and used to jump on in the winter. Couldn’t this money have been used to buy a marquee which could provide shelter from rain, sun and snow and could have been used for an eating area and for summer art classes.
