Shanghai China Theater Discordant Sounds To Western Ears.
The Shanghai China entertainment during the evenings was varied. On one evening we watched a colorful theater performance given by a group of actors and Shanghai China acrobats, when language was no problem, for the athletic skills of the acrobats needed no interpretation, and the scenes performed by the actors were preceded by an English introduction. On another visit to a different Shanghai China theater, Chinese Opera music sounded discordant to our ears, but there were the spectacular costumes and traditional Face Masks to enjoy even if we did not appreciate their importance, based on ancient Chinese stories.
Two of the many things associated with the intriguing country of China are the unique style of opera, and the well-known tea. I was introduced to this beverage in 1980 when a young Chinese couple, who had just had their first baby girl, invited me to join them to supper. They gave me "Gunpowder" tea to drink, with neither milk nor sugar, but after drinking two or three very small cups, my mouth was left with a very clean sweet taste, and since then I must have drunk gallons of the amber liquid.

A visit to a traditional Tea House located in the Shanghai China Yu Yuan gardens, was included in the tour. The coach journey from the Shanghai hotel to the Gardens provided further glimpses of street life; of a young child  standing up in a green pushchair on the pavement, under drying clothes on a line hung between the trees, while grandma, seated on a very low bamboo stool prepared to feed her; a man on his cycle-cart, loaded with a pyramid of water melons, competed for Shanghai China road space with double-buses and tour coaches; women used the pavement as their laundry room. When we walked from the coach to the gardens, we passed through a narrow street where laundry hung like flags between the overhanging eaves of the Shanghai China houses.
