The Mausoleum of Doctor Sun Yatsen was visible from the three arch gate at the entrance.
The landings between the flights of steps to the Mausoleum could be seen from the entrance gate and were a welcome sight, as the view through the arches to the Mausoleum gave an unrealistic impression of the distance between them. From the Three Arch Gate of the Mausoleum there was a long wide, tree lined avenue leading to the main entrance gate. The main entrance gate to the Mausoleun, at the time of our visit, was clad with bamboo scaffolding. Workmen at the Mausoleum main gate wore the now familiar "Mao" clothes of blue jacket and trousers. Having moved through the entrance gate of the Mausoleum, the view up the flights of steps did not seem to bring the Mausoleum any closer. View From Mausoleum To Rolling Hills Of Distant Mountains
There were some large Chinese bronze cauldrons on the flights of steps to the Mausoleum which showed bright shiny patches where visitors had placed their hands, a touch for good luck perhaps, but the steps to the Mausoleum still had to be climbed. When we eventually got to the Mausoleum entrance, we joined a slow moving queue to walk around the tomb to pay our own respects, then were back out to enjoy a spectacular view, and to appreciate how far we had walked to get to the top. The Three Arch Entrance Gate looked minute in the far distance. Had it been a clear day, and we were looking in the right direction, perhaps we would have been able to see Beijing, which was our next destination !
