Industrial Complex on Yangtze Embankment, Factories, Wharves and Houses .
Riverside dwelling on cliff of Yangtze with no apparent means of access. Picture of riverside factory on embankment, down river from Gezhouba Dam. Riverside complex of factories and houses where cars and bicycles would seem to be of no value!. Chinese riverside wharves on embankment with moored cargo boats. Riverside pictures from the Yangtze River taken during cruise from Chungking to Wuhan. Chinese family living in isolated riverside dwelling might rely on harvest from riverside mountains. Section of the Yangtze riverside complex of factories.
Clicking on the Yangtze River pictures below will take you to larger copies which will open in new windows. You can use your back button to return here. Enjoy your cruise !
One can only imagine what life must have been like for the family living in this small riverside dwelling. Their subsistence most likely depended on what they could grow in their stone walled terraces, or what could be harvested from the steep riverside mountains.
|
A recently built riverside factory perched high on the banks of the Yangtze, safe from the changes which would take place on completion of the Three Gorges Dam. Access to the riverside buildings we saw seemed to be solely from the river. |
On the calmer stretch of the river below the dam, blocks of flats, factories and wharves had been built on the riverside bank right to the water's edge.
|
Another section of the Yangtze riverside complex where I should imagine cars and bicycles were of no value! During all my travels, I have never seen such a place again. |

A Selection from Robert's Wild Cards
| The start of these personal webpages and the Vietnam pictures, followed a chance meeting with a young man named Hoang in 1979. Hoang was one of the "Boat People" from Vietnam who arrived in the UK. In due course I was given the responsibility of teaching him some English. A few weeks later I met his family and friends, and subsequently their families and friends, and friends and families, of friends and families.... and so it was that the ideas for the personal webpages began. |

| Browse through the many China pics on the personal webpages and enjoy again a meal of Peking Duck with pancakes at the Qian Men Restaurant in Beijing. See what happens to the floor of a Ming Dynasty Hall after Buddhist Monks have stamped their feet for hundreds of years, as shown in the China pics from the Shaolin temple on the personal webpages of Robert. |
