Entry refused by the Chinese Bride's family and friends until the Groom's party pays an acceptable bride price, passed through the door in red envelopes, "Fun Bao" or "Lai See". The proceedure involves much bantering and bargaining between the two parties. The Chinese sign on the door means, "Double Lucky"; always seen at Chinese Weddings.

The friends of the Chinese bride, having allowed the groom's party to enter the home, quickly move to barricade the bride in her bedroom, and more money changes hands before the Chinese Groom is allowed to enter the Bride's Bedroom. The token rituals of trying to keep the Groom away from his Bride are part of the Chinese Wedding customs.
