Chinese school children in Changsha should be well informed about the Heroes Of The Revolution after their visit to the Memorial situated in a beautiful park in the city.
Just as we arrived at the entrance to the hall, a crocodile of Chinese school children were coming out, under the watchful eyes of their teachers. They were very orderly but the curiosity of a few of them was too much to cope with, so they looked back at the foreign visitor they had just passed.
There was much chattering amongst the Chinese school children, but I doubt whether they were talking about The Revolution, or the photos of the Heroes they had seen during their visit.
Visitor Causes Chinese School Children To Stampede !

Zhang, Cheng-1, Cheng-2, and I spent some time in the park before returning to the exit gate, where another group of Chinese school children were gathered, temporarily free from the discipline imposed by their teachers. Some of the young boys were having a race with each other, but most of the Chinese school children were gathered in a group. As soon as I started to take some photographs, they rushed forward to get included in the shot, much to the alarm of my three companions who thought I might have been crushed in the stampede. Needless to say, I survived without injury to continue taking these treasured mementoes of my visit !
Chinese School Children In Red And In Blue

Most Asian people seem to have an ability to crouch on their haunches with considerable ease. I have seen even older people meeting each other in the streets, particularly in the country towns and villages, who would quickly crouch while continuing their conversation, just as these five young boys were doing in the park. Whether they were settling their bets on the recent
races, or playing a special game, I just don't know.
On another day we took a taxi to the outskirts of the city and then went by
cable car to the top of a mountain where I was surprised to find a small estate of newly built western type bungalows. When we got back down again this youngster asked Zhang if I would take a photograph of him. How could I refuse ?
