The Yangshuo town is set in beautiful surroundings on the banks of the Li River, and is the jewel awaiting you at the end of a cruise from Guilin. The beauty of Yangshuo town is claimed to be unrivalled........ by the local people.... and it castes it spell on you as you walk up the steps from the quay. Perched on the steep bank of the Li River, flights of steps lead to different levels of the town and there are many views of boats arriving and leaving the quay. The shops are like Alladin Caves for the tourist, carried away by their surroundings, so beware ! Moon gates and terraces add to the Yangshuo beauty and the natural landscape of the area. Local people shop and gossip, play Chinese chess, while children act out their games of imagination, all in beautiful surroundings. How lucky they are !

Cycling and Mountain Biking

''Most visitors to Yangshuo spend at least some time exploring the surrounding area by bicycle. Because it is still a small place in spite of the rapid tourism development, Yangshuo is one of the only major tourist destinations in the country from which real rural China is easily accessible. Within minutes of the town centre by bike, tourists can find themselves practically lost amongst karst peaks and paddy fields. Bike rental is available from numerous touts on the side of the main streets. Apart from the main highways to Guilin and Lipu, the countless roads and dirt tracks in the Yangshuo area are quiet, making them ideal for cycling. In 2005, Australian-owned cycling tour company Bike Asia opened a base in Yangshuo, and has since started to develop the area for mountain biking and cycle touring, with the addition of western standard mountain bike hire, guided tour services and bike trail maps.
