Chinese People Nurtured By Their Belief In Buddhism
Buddhism plays a big part in the lives of many Chinese people.
and even though Buddhism was severely criticised during the Cultural Revolution, Buddhism remained in the minds of the Buddhists in China. Chinese people now openly worship at Buddhist Temples and the children are being introduced to the rituals. The Jade Buddha Temple at Shanghai is famous, but there are smaller temples in other towns, perhaps not as well known, but equally revered by the local people, nurtured by their belief in Buddhism.

In Guilin, I was taken to a Buddhist Temple where the
Nuns prepared a meal for us of Vegetarian Dishes, a feast fit for an Emperor, attractively
presented, of different textures and flavors, cooked on an open wood fire on the floor in the kitchen area, and we dined at a table in the Temple.
For some families, having a son who is a Buddhist Monk, is considered to be a great honor so quite often young boys are taken to the temples and left to start their induction to Buddhism, receiving their education from the Monks. They are far away from their families and friends and some do not adjust to their new environment very easily becoming homesick and sad and are returned to their homes.
Others, with different personalities, adapt very quickly to Buddhism and their new life style and in later years achieve an enviable aura of peacefulness now rarely seen in this modern age of materialism and possessiveness.
Buddhism Brings Serenity To Young Monk Bathed in Sunshine.
In one Buddhist Temple, I observed a young Monk sitting serenely in a corner bathed in a shaft of sunlight coming through a window. His physical body may have been in the Temple, but from the kind contented expression on his face, I would say that his mind was in another dimension of Buddhism.
