Hani Minority Group People In A Small Village Near
Menglian (Yunnan)

The Hani people (called Akha in Laos) are one
of the many ethnic minority groups in Yunnan. The women wear
very elaborate hats with beads, shells, and sometimes
old coins. These Minority Group Hani people are present in the south of Yunnan and
the north of Laos.

In The Dai Village Temple With A Local Buddhist Monk
I came across a small festival in a little Dai Minority group
village. After a traditional splashing of water, I
stand here with a local buddhist monk in the temple. I
received a very warm welcome from the minority group villagers who
kept offering food and tea.

Dai Minority Group Women On Their Way To The Pagoda
In the same village as the above photo, the Dai minority group women
parade to the pagoda following what they called
the "buddha umbrellas", the crowns that go on the top
of the corners of the pagoda. The Dai minority group is
apparented to the Thai of Thailand.

Minority Group People At A Jingpo Village Near Yingjiang
The Jingpo villagers here belong to another ethnic minority
group, known across the border in Myanmar/Burma as the
Kachin. They are christian, having been converted by
an english missionary at the turn of the century. The
girl in front of me was happy to put on her festival
dress for the photo.

A Selection from Robert's Wild Cards
| The start of these personal webpages and the Vietnam pictures, followed a chance meeting with a young man named Hoang in 1979. Hoang was one of the "Boat People" from Vietnam who arrived in the UK. In due course I was given the responsibility of teaching him some English. A few weeks later I met his family and friends, and subsequently their families and friends, and friends and families, of friends and families.... and so it was that the ideas for the personal webpages began. |
 |
| Browse through the many China pics on the personal webpages and enjoy again a meal of Peking Duck with pancakes at the Qian Men Restaurant in Beijing. See what happens to the floor of a Ming Dynasty Hall after Buddhist Monks have stamped their feet for hundreds of years, as shown in the China pics from the Shaolin temple on the personal webpages of Robert. |
