Changsha: Chinese People in Changsha Work, Sleep, Race And Play.
The first visit to Changsha was from Shanghai travelling with a friend who's hometown was near Huai Hua but who actually worked at the Furama Hotel in Changsha. On arrival at the airport in Changsha, we were met by two other friends, both of whom worked at the Furama Hotel, but our room, which had been booked for us by friends in Beijing, was at a different hotel! An arrangement sounding rather complicated but ideally suitable for us at the time. We stayed in Changsha for a few days, but the main purpose of our visit was to go to HuaiHua, to be with other Chinese families.

Mao Tze Dong has an important historical connection with Changsha as he attended a teacher's training college in Changsha, and in later years came back to work as a teacher himself. That was before the period when he became known worldwide as the leader of the Cultural Revolution and as Chairman Mao. In Changsha there is a Memorial Park and on the walls inside the main hall are hung pictures of 'Heroes Of The Revolution'. Young pupils from the Changsha schools come to the hall to be taught something about the history of the revolution, and about some of the people who lost their lives during its course. The groups of school children listen attentively to their teachers inside the hall, as the 'lesson' proceeds, then leave in an orderly crocodile fashion, despite the distraction of a westerner taking a photo or two. One such group of Changsha children had been to the Memorial Hall and had returned to the area near the park gates, when they became aware of the camera in use. There was a stampede towards the cameraman
, all the children wanting to be certain that they would be included in the photos!
