Photo Of Olympic Rings Formed In Flowers Supports Application For Beijing Olympics.

The last application for the Olympic Games to be held in Beijing was successful, and a considerable amount of work has been underway in preparation for the Beijing Olympics in 2008. Earlier applications were made when Beijing was bedecked with flags and banners supporting these applications, which were not successful. At the entrance to the Temple of Heaven Park, in Beijing, a flower bed planted to present the five Olympic Rings, was a sign that every effort was being made to persuade the Olympic Committee to choose Beijing as the venue for the games. Across parts of the expressway from the Beijing airport on the approach to the city, colorful banners proclaimed that Beijing would welcome the Olympics Games. During that particular application year there were few people in Beijing who were not aware that the city hoped to be favoured for such an event.

Asian Games, and other international tournaments have previously been held in Beijing, creating an influx into the city of athletes, spectators, newspaper reporters, broadcasters, film producers, and others, so the conditions applying by such events are not new to Beijing. Being the hosts of the Olympics Games in 2008 puts Beijing into the centre of World attention; certainly for the duration of the Olympics Games, and for some time after.

Olympic Games Brings Athletes From Five Continents To Test Their Abilities.

Whoever takes part in the Beijing Olympics, whoever is presented with medals, and whoever fails to achieve their ambitions, should perhaps keep in mind the Olympic Creed, "The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well." Perhaps that is a greater challenge than taking part in the Olympic Games themselves.

Beijing has many other attractions to appeal to the athletes and spectators, other than the 2008 Olympic Games. For some, who may have travelled halfway across the world to get to Beijing, it is an opportunity to visit the Great Wall Of China, or the Forbidden City. Perhaps move on to Xian, made famous by the discovery of the Terra Cotta Warriors, or fly to Shanghai to experience the different world of PuDong. Whatever your interests, other than the competitive sports of the Olympics Games, there is sure to be something in China that will satisfy your quest for knowledge or provide you with other means of enjoying your visit. What about a meal of Peking Roast Duck with pancakes! ?

''''' Since the first modern games, in Athens, Greece, participation in the Olympic Games has increased to include athletes from nearly all nations worldwide. With the improvement of satellite communications and global telecasts of the events, the Olympics are consistently gaining supporters. The most recent Summer Olympics were the 2004 Games in Athens and the most recent Winter Olympics were the 2006 Games in Turin. The upcoming games in Beijing are planned to comprise 302 events in 28 sports. As of 2006, the Winter Olympics were competed in 84 events in 7 sports. Src: '''''
