Chinese Family Growing Vegetables In Garden; Small Beds Of Vegetables And Mandarin Trees Near River Yuan.![]()
Growing vegetables in the garden is not unusual for Chinese families and when needed, any suitable ground is used to provide a supply of fresh vegetables. Even small beds in the garden are used for growing vegetables, as we saw when we visited the home of a Chinese grandma holding a young grandson in her arms. There are many advantages in growing vegetables in a garden, one being freshness. If the vegetables are in season they can be picked, cooked, and eaten with ease. They were not bought in a supermarket; the vegetables had not travelled from a far distant country, to be sold in the shops. Growing vegetables in a garden can be very satisfying, not only for hunger, but for self pride, and to be able to say, ''I grew these myself!"
